Cairns

Well, we are now living in the rainforest, or that is what it feels like. It is very hot and humid and we are surrounded by lush vegetation, tropical birds, and sounds. Here is the view from the balcony.

Now all we have to do is find a house to rent, a car, furniture, school uniform etc..!!!!!!

A long journey

Well, we finally made it - over a week ago now. Jet lag wasn't too bad, but we were sooooo tired when we got here. The journey went OK, but we had a few moments!

We had to order two taxis to the the airport, one for us and one for the luggage. One turned up and the other one nearly didn't. Still we had allowed plenty of time to get to the airport. Good job really as when we finally left, the luggage taxi went a 'quicker route'. It got stuck in Nairobi traffic and only just joined us in time. The 5 hour flight to Dubai was fine, but the taxi took us to the Copthorne Hotel rather than the Copthorne Airport Hotel! (By accident?!) When we finally got to the right hotel they had only booked us two rooms with 4 single beds, so at one o'clock in the morning Daniel spent a long time in reception trying to sort out rooms. In the end they gave us 3. Josh and Caleb shared; Bethany, Ruben and I shared, and Daniel got to enjoy his own room.

Only a few hours later we were up again enjoying the all you can eat buffet breakfast, the bit of Dubai we all enjoy, courtesy of Emirates. Then we were on our way to Melbourne, only a 14 hour journey! It's a very long flight, but somehow it passes. The worst bit was when we arrived in Melbourne and we had a 3 hour queue to get through Immigration and Customs. Apart from Ruben, none of us had really slept and we were so tired standing in the queue for what seemed liked forever. When we finally got our 3 trolleys of luggage and the buggy we had to go and declare all our questionable Kenyan items.

We finally made it through only to find we had missed out connecting flight to Cairns. Fortunately they were able to put us on a flight in the afternoon and gave us meal vouchers to use in our five hour wait. The kids were so tired by this time, especially Caleb (who spent the entire flight watching movies and hadn't even tried to sleep). We really had to poke him to keep him moving. Fuelled on coke, junk food and coffee we eventually made it to Cairns, arriving around 5pm, which is 7am in the UK (1am in Dubai, midnight in Kenya...)

Here are a few pictures of our journey:
